Ellen’s husband Ed is a retired Battalion Chief with the Milford Fire Department and is an Eagle Scout. She has three sons, Luke, Zack, and Nicholas.

Nija Phelps

Candidate for: 1st District, Board of Aldermen

Nija PhelpsNija worked as a transportation center secretary at Purdue University for 5 years. She left her job to provide care for her disabled mother-in-law. She moved to Connecticut 2 1⁄2 years ago when her husband Matthew was hired by Sikorsky. She studied Communications and believes in the value of teamwork to accomplish goals. She is eager to contribute to her neighborhood.

Nick Veccharelli

Candidate for: 2nd District, Board of Aldermen

Nick VeccharelliNick is a Lifelong resident of Milford. He has distinguished himself for holding the line on spending. Nick has worked to preserve open space, stop over-development and expand recreational facilities and activities for the young and elderly. Nick will work to protect the quality of life for Milford Citizens.

Janet A. Golden

Candidate for: 2nd District, Board of Aldermen

Janet GoldenBorn and raised in Milford and raising her family here. Janet is seeking her fourth term on the Board of Aldermen. She served on the Planning and Zoning board for four years and served two years on the Board of Education representing the 2nd district.

Janet and her husband David have been married for 24 years and have three children. Two have graduated from the Milford school system and their youngest attends Jonathan Law High School. Janet’s parents are seniors living in Milford.

Marty Hardiman

Candidate for: 3rd District, Board of Aldermen

Marty HardimanMarty Hardiman has served the city of Milford for nearly 30 years in both elected and appointed positions. He is seeking his fifth term on the Board of Alderman.

Marty, his wife Linda, and their family, enjoy many of the amenities of Milford, especially the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, an event which Marty chairs annually. As a long-time public servant, Marty has continually acted in the best interests of his constituency, has been a valuable voice for the residents of the Third District, and has been an outstanding official for all of Milford.


Frank Smith

Candidate for: 3rd District, Board of Aldermen

Frank SmithA life-long resident of Milford’s Third District, Frank Smith has served the citizens of Milford in many capacities over the years. He currently serves on the Board of Alderman and is Chairman of the Ordinance Committee. Frank is very active in regional arts and environmental organizations.

Anthony Sutton

Candidate for: 4th District, Board of Aldermen

Anthony SuttonTony was appointed this year to the Board of Aldermen. He has practiced law in Connecticut for 20 years, specializing in civil litigation trials. Tony is proud to call Milford home and greatly appreciates the opportunity to continue to represent his neighbors and fellow residents of the Fourth District.

Phil Vetro

Candidate for: 4th District, Board of Aldermen

Phil VetroPhil Vetro is Chairman of the Board of Aldermen and is seeking his 8th term on that Board. He is a Marine Corps Veteran who served two tours during the Vietnam War. Phil has owned and operated his own business, Vetro Construction LLC, since 1974.

Bryan Anderson

Candidate for: 5th District, Board of Aldermen

Bryan AndersonBryan brings experience and vision to his bid for a fourth term on the Board of Aldermen. Respected by Republicans and Democrats alike, he has worked to provide solutions and increase communications with residents of the Fifth District. Bryan was instrumental in preserving education funding and in crafting tax cuts for Milford taxpayers the past two budget cycles. He has been active with the United Federation of Teachers.

Karen Fortunati

Candidate for: 5th District, Board of Aldermen

Karen FortunatiKaren is the author of award-winning and nationally recognized young adult novel, The Weight of Zero. She is a former prosecutor specializing in narcotics crimes and juvenile offenders, and former attorney specializing in criminal defense and DCF matters.

Karen has been married to Dr. Frank Fortunati, Medical Director at Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, for twenty-one years. Karen and Frank have two children.
